Aeonium
With their striking, rose-like rosettes perched atop woody stems, Aeoniums bring a sense of structural elegance to any plant collection. Unlike many succulents that prioritize plumpness, Aeoniums are celebrated for their symmetrical precision and vibrant, waxy leaves that range from deep garnet and "Black Rose" hues to brilliant lime greens and variegated creams.
They thrive in bright, indirect light or partial sun. While they love the brightness, intense afternoon sun in scorching climates can singe their leaves, so a bit of dappled shade is ideal during peak heat.
Aeoniums have a shallower root system than other succulents. Water them when the top inch of soil feels dry. During their summer dormancy, they require significantly less water; in the winter—their active growing season—they appreciate more regular moisture.
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. They prefer a slightly more moisture-retentive soil than cacti, but "wet feet" (standing water) should always be avoided to prevent root rot.
